Book Summary – Spoiler Free
Set in a Norse-inspired world brimming with warring factions and divine prophecies, A Fate Inked in Blood follows a young woman chosen by the gods but bound by forces beyond her control. As she navigates dangerous alliances and battles, she must embrace her destiny while facing enemies who would see her fail. The book introduces a gripping mix of sword fights, forbidden magic, and slow-burn romance, all wrapped in a richly built world where fate is written in blood.
One of the strongest aspects of A Fate Inked in Blood is its world-building. Jensen masterfully crafts a Norse-esque society that feels both immersive and authentic, with detailed cultural elements that enhance the story’s depth. The protagonist is compelling, balancing strength and vulnerability in a way that makes her both relatable and inspiring. The romance is slow-burning and well-developed, avoiding clichés while adding emotional depth to the narrative.
The pacing is mostly strong, with high-intensity battle scenes balanced by moments of character growth. However, some sections in the middle feel slightly drawn out, making the momentum dip briefly before picking up again. While the book does a great job of setting up an epic saga, it does end on a bit of a cliffhanger, which may frustrate readers who prefer more resolution.

Listening to A Fate Inked in Blood as an audiobook added an extra layer of depth to an already gripping story. The narration brought the intensity of battle, the weight of Freya’s struggles, and the raw emotion of her journey to life in a way that made it even more immersive.
I found myself wholeheartedly rooting for Freya—her resilience, her strength, and her refusal to be a pawn in others’ games made her a compelling protagonist. But by the end, I was absolutely furious. The audacity of the male main character left me shocked, frustrated, and questioning everything. Jensen crafted such an emotionally charged story that the betrayal and twists in the final stretch felt like a gut punch. The mix of fate, power, and deception made for an unforgettable read, even if it left me seething in the best way.

Now some of you all are probably thinking why? Well I promise I’m not trying to be hard on this book at all if anything I had to scrounge up those itty bitty issues. For example a good cliffhanger is what draws me in, but considering this series is incomplete it was a bummer to get to the end and well that was just it. I know I know at the time of this review the next book in the series comes out June 2025, but this book masterpiece was just too good to end me like that.

An engaging, well-written fantasy with strong world-building and a compelling heroine. The slight pacing issues and cliffhanger ending keep it from being a perfect five, but it’s definitely a must-read for fantasy lovers and will have you rooting for
Final Thoughts
I would definitely recommend this book to just about anyone. This book has so many great elements that most readers would enjoy. If you are looking for a strong female main character whose character development gets better as the book progresses, or slow-burn tension filled romance, fantasy elements based in norse mythology, or rich world building then this book is for you. The Norse Mythology genre notably is not one you need to really know much about to really enjoy this books.
Fans of The Witch’s Heart by Genevieve Gornichec or The Shadow of the Gods by John Gwynne will likely enjoy A Fate Inked in Blood. Additionally if you have not read those books but enjoy TV then think Vikings or The Last Kingdom. I found myself telling my husband it reminded me so much of Vikings.
